I am pleased to welcome you to Walden Asset Management. We are the socially responsive investment division
of Boston Trust & Investment Management Company, an employee-owned
firm. Since 1975, Walden has worked diligently to be a leader and innovator
in social investing, never losing sight that our clients entrust us to deliver
positive results on both their financial and social investment objectives. Our investment team,
which is integrated with Boston Trust, has developed an investment philosophy
that emphasizes careful consideration of asset allocation and portfolio
diversification, along with a focus on financially strong companies. This
approach has resulted in competitive investment performance over the long term,
characterized by participation in rising markets and conservation of assets in
declining markets.
The individuals who comprise Walden's in-house social research and advocacy
team and our portfolio managers have a rich history of experience and a breadth
of knowledge that is unique in the social investing industry. By using all the
tools available, we give true meaning to the word "social" in the "socially
responsive investing" process:
- In-depth, comprehensive and customized portfolio
screening;
- Shareholder advocacy - proxy voting, company dialogue, and
shareholder resolutions - on a wide range of social justice, environmental and
governance issues;
- Public
policy advocacy and awareness building on social investing and key regulatory
and legislative issues; and
- Networking with other investors, issue experts,
and advocacy organizations to expand our impact.
I joined Walden in 2000 to
help our clients integrate their personal values and institutional missions with
their investments. Previously, I worked for 30 years with religious investors
beginning in a period when this industry was an idea, not a reality. I am proud
of Walden's accomplishments. Through effective partnership with our clients,
Walden has led many successful initiatives to strengthen corporate social
responsibility, actively utilizing our voice as investors to promote
constructive change. I am fortunate to work in a company where we share so much in common with
our clients, affording us the opportunity to combine our investment expertise
with our passion for social justice.
